Periodicals and Magazines

The following periodicals may be useful in finding out information about a particular vocation, or hunting for a job once you have your degree. Periodicals are shelved on the 2nd floor of the library; they do not circulate. Photocopy machines are available on each floor of the library. 

Occupational Outlook Quarterly is published by the U.S. Department of Labor. Every issue offers in-depth coverage of various occupations, and occasional special issues address the U.S. job outlook and project employment trends. It is also available online

Many magazines and journals publish employment listings, many aimed at particular occupations. These include the following (note: clicking on the title will show you which issues the library owns. You must come to the library to read the actual magazine/journal): 

Online newspaper classified ads can be very helpful, especially if you're willing to relocate. Online Newspapers.com lists thousands of sources. For local and regional listings, The STCC Library subscribes to the following papers:

  • Springfield  Republican

  • Boston Globe

  • Boston Herald

  • Hartford Courant

  • New York Times

  • USA Today

Magazines can't be taken from the library, but there are two photocopiers in the library for public use. Magazines and journals are kept on the second floor of the library; newspapers are on the first floor at the end of the reference section..
