Celebrate Children's Book Week!
Did you know that the STCC library has a children's book section? It may not be obvious, as it's on the second floor around the corner from the magazines, but it exists (thanks in large part to Professor Sherry Sausville). So now that exams are (almost) over, celebrate Children's Book Week with a child in your life by borrowing a book!
"In 1913, Franklin K. Matthiews, the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America, began touring the country to promote higher standards in children's books. He proposed creating a Children's Book Week, which would be supported by all interested groups: publishers, booksellers, and librarians." (from the web site for Children's Book Week) As part of the week's events, the Children's Choice Book Awards were announced last night. (drum roll...) Award winners in several age categories were determined this year by over 220,000 online votes by kids across the country, and include The Pigeon Wants a Puppy, Spooky Cemeteries, and for teens, Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer who won "author of the year" (as a parent of an almost teen, I can assure you that the Stephenie Meyer books are wildly popular in my house!)
