Suggestions and Comments March 2008

We need more computers.
We need more space for them, as well as money to buy them and staff to assist our patrons. So, cross your fingers and write to the Governor and your legislators in support of your college and your college library.

More time on computers for students...like an hour.
Students get 90 minutes each day with their STCC bar codes. If you are in need, talk to someone at the reference desk. If you don't have an ID, you get a half hour each day.

More Noshing
Noshing is at your discretion. Eat what you bring in, and PLEASE clean up after yourself. Donations of wrapped candy are cheerfully accepted.

More Film screenplays and, subscribe to Cahiers du Cinema and Sight and Sound. We will consider screenplays. Specific recommendations would be appreciated. We will consider the subscription requests in the summer, when we order subscriptions for the next year. They are not in our electronic databases. I checked.

Less Cell phone noise.
Cell phone noise is still something we are trying to figure out. We'd like people to remember to keep their phones on vibrate. We understand family emergencies. However, feel free to ask a staff member to hush a noisy patron. If we are helping, we may not see a problem.

All faculty should be required to put class textbooks on room reserve.
It's a great idea. We can't make that policy, but students can suggest it to their instructors, and we'd be happy to house the faculty copies here for library use only.

Tour or explain media sections to students who are not familiar with uses, etc. map?
We offered sessions one fall, and two students came. So, we tie our sessions to classes. Ask your faculty to schedule a session for your class. OR, ask at the reference desk. We'd be happy to help. We are looking into a media tool, like a map or online resource that students can use.

Start hosting LAN parties.
We don't have administrative rights to our computers. Go to Student Activities, start a club, and get an advisor. He or she would, I hope, be able to help you get this up started.

Music
Yes, indeed!

Free computers!
Not at this time.

You guys rock.
THANK YOU. You are the reason we get up every morning.
