Here is the list of events that might be interesting to anyone who likes music, poetry or history.
The college is celebrating African American History Month with:

Saturday, February 23
4:00–11:00 p.m.
4th Annual Black History Month Lecture Series Theater, Scibelli Hall STCC Campus; tickets available at the door
This series is sponsored by WTCC 90.7 FM; the STCC Diversity Council; and Roots and Branches, a multi-cultural entertainment network and subsidiary of Lindsay Entertainment Network. Masters of ceremony for the event are Andrew Cade of WTCC-FM and Kari Njiiri of WFCR-FM. Tickets are $20 for the general public and $15 for students, and will be available at the door. The program is supported in part by a grant from the Springfield Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Followed by a musical presentation, the lectures will focus on “the lives of three prominent black international historical figures whose inspiring work has helped to shape our world culturally, politically, and artistically,” said Maurice Lindsay, president of Lindsay Entertainment Network.

4:00-5:30 p.m.
Dr. Touissant King Hill, a cousin of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will speak on behalf of the King family, examining the contrast between the dream that Dr. King envisioned for America’s race relations and the status of race relations in today’s American society

5:30-7:00 p.m.
A personal journey into the life and times of the Honorable Marcus M. Garvey will be highlighted by his youngest son, Dr. Julius Garvey, and will review Marcus Garvey’s historical legacy in the U.S., Canada, Africa, and the Caribbean.

7:00-9:00 p.m.
Bob Marley’s biographer Roger Steffens will present a two-hour film and lecture on the life and works of musician Bob Marley.

9:30-11:00 p.m.
The 15-member Bob Marley Ensemble of the Berklee College of Music will close out the day’s events with a live performance of Bob Marley music.

Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz. This multimedia concert, based on a 1961 12-part poetic suite by poet/writer/playwright Langston Hughes, is created by and performed by Dr. Ron McCurdy, professor and chairman of jazz studies at the University of Southern California.
